TUMAINI TELEVISION PROFILE
Tumaini Television (Ttv) is a non-profit community television station run by the Archdiocese of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. His Eminence Polycarp Cardinal Pengo, the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Dar es Salaam launched official start of the Ttv broadcasting on 21st February, 2009.
Currently, Tumaini Television can be viewed on channel 25, VHF in Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar and Pwani areas. It is currently on air for six (6) hours, as from 4.00 pm to 10.00 pm on week days, and for eight (8) hours on weekends, i.e. Sutardays and Sundays, from 4.00pm to 12.00pm. Soon Tumaini Television will cover the whole country, through a project of Satellite uplink, which is already underway.
Tumaini Television seeks to serve the Tanzanian community, regardless of their colour, religion, race, tribe etc.
Presently the programming mix consists of daily religious songs for spiritual reflections, programmes on news, current affairs, education, social issues (women, children, social justice, freedom, and human rights), culture, politics, religion, and entertainment. For example, every Sunday there is a “Mass for you at home” programme, primarily offered for Catholics who could not be able to attend Holy Mass at churches. There is also a documentary programme about Parishes in Dar es Salaam, called “Know your Parish” presenting best Catholic practices and Small Christian Community life.
